Mr. Udhayan, an officer of the Indian Forest Service was working as Conservator of Forests in the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, India prior to this assignment. He joined the Indian Forest Service in 1991 and has experience in managing several Wildlife and Territorial forest Divisons. He was also deputed to institutes of the Government of India involved in forestry and wildlife training and in forest assessment through Remote sensing. Apart from Masters degree in Forestry and Environmental Sciences, he also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and a Post Graduate Diploma in Wildlife Management from the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun.
